Participation in internet forums:

What is it?

- Participating in internet forums is communication with others through the use of internet forums, this could be to talk about a film or something a similar bond alike person feels the same and looks for a forum to talk about it.

What is the purpose?

- The purpose of participating in internet forums is to allow people to talk about things that other people want to talk about as well, this also could be revolved around a movie, say a short film, a short film producer could look at feedback on someones short film to see where they have made mistakes so they will not. This then would help with not making them mistakes when it comes to the producer producing their own short film in the future.

Methods and Sources of Research: Primary Research (Audience Panels)

Audience panels:

What is an Audience Panel?

- An audience panel discussion example could be a TV focus group this is where a group of viewers are assembled to give feedback to certain producers on a certain show.

What is it's purpose?
- The point of audience panels is to allow a group of people to give feedback to the producers of a TV show for them to be able to take the advice and choose whether to improve on it.
- For short film researchers they can benefit from this as audience panels can represent different groups of viewers, this would therefore potentially enable the producers and writers to gain a realistic insight of the viewer's personal opinions around the topic of short films or a certain short film in which would be discussed.

Methods and Sources of Research: Primary Research (Focus Groups)

Focus groups:

- A focus group is a small group in which are arranged to discuss a certain subject or matter.
- They also can discuss problem solving issues such as; idea generation or forecasting techniques where several experts or informed individuals share their POV (Point of view) within a specific topic in which maybe they are specialised in.

What is the main purpose of using a focus group?

- The purpose of a focus group is to draw upon research and gather the respondents attitudes, feelings, beliefs, experiences and reactions in a way which you wouldn't be able to gather it using other methods for example; observations, one-to-one interviewing, or questionnaires/ surveys.
- Within a short film production, a writer or director could potentially arrange a focus group which would consist of maybe 4-15 people which consists of their target audience who have seen it to therefore be able to receive valid feedback on the matter, with this they will be able to provide personal responses in which they liked and disliked about the short film which was shown to them.

Methods and Sources of Research: Primary Research (Types of Questions)

Types of questions:

What are the different types of questions?

- This can be categorised through different questions which are either open or closed questions. Open questions however require an opinionated response whereas closed questions limit the respondents resposes, such as 'yes' or no'.
- Through using these techniques of questions a researcher will be able to gather more elaborated and valid responses.

What is the purpose?
- The purpose of having different sectors to questions such as multiple questions and answer is to validate the amount of answers you can receive. Also determining how much information you need to gather for specific questions for example if it's a yes or no answer question this shows for a short film producer it would be a question as easy as after taking this survey would you consider watching short films in the future etc.

Methods and Sources of Research: Primary Research (Surveys)

Surveys:

What is a Survey?

Image result for surveys- A survey is simply another method of primary research, this is similar to a questionnaire. Some surveys can be conducted online which expands on the amount of respondents in which the researcher can receive. However, surveys are more likely to be a quicker way of gathering quantitative data as they focus on capturing closed questions.

What is the purpose?

The survey is designed to define and measure the quality of Library services. It measures users' perceptions of service quality and identifies gaps between minimum, desired, and perceived service levels. For a short film creator I feel using this form of primary research would be a good way of constructing a well built field of relevant information in which would help with the construction of any short film as long as the information which is gathered is applied to it correctly.

Methods and Sources of Research: Primary Research (Questionnaires)

Questionnaires:

What is a questionnaire?

- This is a set of printed or written questions with a choice of answers which can be chosen, this is usually created for the purpose of a survey or statistical study.
- A questionnaire is a method of primary research that are quick and easy to conduct. Questionnaires are a quicker way of obtaining large amounts of responses from respondents in a short period of time. Questionnaires are a more likely used form of qualitative data as most questionnaires capture open questions.

- A questionnaire can be seen similar to a survey.

What's its purpose?

- The purpose of gathering information and opinions on certain subjects is simply to put it to use. For a short film creator this would help fully with gathering information in which would be required in the initial pre production stage of collecting information to put towards the short film. Gathering ideas such as favourite genres, what the public feel the short film should be based on etc.

- The observation is the action or process which is undertaken to the study of someone's behaviour and to comprehend why individuals act and behave in certain ways in some situations. For example, a type of observation would be that noticing when someone is always late, this helps with determining that persons behaviour trait for some situations.

What's its purpose?
- To gain an understanding into what your searching whether it be observing a student or a science project. It's to gain an understanding. With observation for a short film creator this is relevant for a certain themed event such as setting up a booth and displaying cards of genre such as Horror Comedy etc. with this you can judge by the behaviour and facial expressions someone pulls when the card is being shown.
